As we’ve all learned recently, our health is paramount – and eye health is no exception. That’s why it’s essential to get an annual eye exam, especially for adults over 65, whose vision is more prone to complications and changes. This Healthy Aging Month, we emphasize the importance of regular examinations, especially as we approach maturity.
There are a multitude of reasons why annual eye exams are essential, as they can help detect—and mitigate—serious health problems. Indeed, eye exams are not only essential for diagnosing eye diseases, but they can also reveal general health problems, such as high blood pressure, diabetes, and cardiovascular disease.
A comprehensive eye exam checks the internal and external health of your eyes and is performed by a doctor. Unlike a simple vision screening, the eye exam includes a series of complex tests, including an eye muscle movement test, a cover test, which reveals how your eyes coordinate, an external examination and a pupil response test, a visual acuity test, a refraction test to refine the prescription and a retinal examination, among other essential tests, depending on individual needs.
